Proctology in Dénia - Discreet care for discomfort in the anorectal region

Proctology is the specialty dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the rectum, anal canal, and anus. Although often experienced with embarrassment, these are common and treatable conditions that can significantly reduce quality of life (pain, itching, bleeding, changes in bowel habits). We have modern diagnostic methods and minimally invasive or conservative therapies to provide sustained symptom relief.

Diagnosis and treatment

After a discreet medical history, we perform a gentle and minimally painful examination, e.g.:

  • Rectal examination and palpation
  • Proctoscopy (visualization of the anal canal)
  • Rectoscopy (visualization of the rectum)
  • Colonoscopy (visualization of the colon)
  • Stool studies and, if necessary, additional imaging tests
  • Anoscopy
  • Tissue samples and biopsies
  • Visualization of the fistula using dye solution/contrast agent.

Typical conditions in proctology
  • Hemorrhoids: enlarged vascular cushions that can cause itching, bleeding, moisture, or pressure. Treatment according to grade: ointments and sitz baths up to ligation with elastic bands or surgery.
  • Anal fissures: painful tears in the anal skin, often due to hard stools or chronic constipation. Treatment with analgesic ointments, transit regulation, and, if necessary, surgery.
  • Anal fistulas and abscesses: inflammatory tracts with perianal pus collections; usually require surgical treatment.
  • Fecal incontinence: uncontrolled passage of stool or gas due to various causes (e.g., nerve damage, pelvic floor weakness); individual therapy from pelvic floor training to surgery.
  • Eczema and anal itching: chronic skin irritations due to infections, moisture, or allergies.
  • Rectal bleeding: study of the origin of bleeding to distinguish common causes from more significant ones (e.g., polyps or tumors).
