When is an audiogram useful?

An audiogram is particularly recommended in cases of:

• Suspected hearing loss (e.g., decreased speech comprehension, having to ask more often).
• Tinnitus (subjective noise in the ear such as ringing or buzzing).
• Balance disorders (since the organ of balance and the organ of hearing are closely connected).
• Hearing changes after noise exposure (work, disco, etc.).
• Routine check-ups, at the latest from the age of 50, as reduced hearing ability is a slow and generally unnoticed process
